New for Italy – Ferrari & Kimberley Process Certification Scheme

On January 1, 2021, the seventh European authority was established in Italy for the verification of imports, exports and the issue of EU certificates subject to the Kimberley Process of rough diamonds.

The European Commission with REG. (EU) 2020/2149 has attributed to the Chemical Laboratory of Customs of Turin the exclusive competence for these controls in Italy; the Turin Customs Office carries out the related checks and customs formalities.

The Kimberley Process Certification Scheme aims to eliminate the presence on the market of conflict diamonds in the production, export and import supply chain within all participating countries. The Kimberley certification system is intended, among other things, to ensure that shipments of rough diamonds are carried out in containers capable of withstanding tampering and that they are accompanied by a Kimberley certificate validated by the exporting country.

Ferrari is able to manage this particular service, an absolute novelty for the Italian market: through its customs department, Ferrari follows all the administrative and customs procedures relating to the “KIMBERLEY PROCESS CERTIFICATION”, while the transport of rough diamonds to the certifier in Turin takes place in total safety with his own armored vehicles.
